After a bit of searching I found someone who had adapted the firewire driver so that it works in El Capitan. It is a shame that such good equipment is coming so close to the end of it's life. Concerning the disabling of the SIP. It does lower the level of security at the root level. It is possible to turn it on and off whenever you need to. A little inconvenient, but possible if necessary. I monitor the traffic on my computer using 'little snitch', and only give network/internet access to processes that I trust. It can get a little annoying to give permission to traffic one by one, but it gives another level of protection.

Hi Johan, I hope this work-around is successful for you. It is a shame that this product is coming close to end of life. But, it is hard to find any devices that still use FireWire nowadays. Especially FireWire 400. I'm not looking forward to the day I upgrade my computer, as I am going to have to rethink my entire rig.

That, or buy a bunch of adapters, or hubs, to get me through. I don't blame the developers for not supporting it any more. It is just getting a bit long in the tooth.
