Ventrilo For Raspberry Pi 3

Ok, here's my issue: I'm trying unsuccessfully to use Ventrilo while playing World of Warcraft. My mic works, the audio works. I've narrowed down the problem to one thing. When the Ventrilo window is on top of my desktop, I can speak on it using my push-to-talk key. But when I switch back to playing WoW (thus pushing the Vent window underneath), I cannot speak.

I can still hear all of my teammates speaking, but no one can hear me. Yes, I have tried changing my push-to-talk key. Yes, my guild's ventrilo server uses the Speex codec. Yes, I have even bought a new mic. Yes, I have checked the box in Universal Access to 'Enable Access for Assistive Devices'. Has anyone else experienced this with the macbook pro?

I have a guild-mate who uses an iBook and has no issues with Ventrilo while playing WoW. I am really frustrated at this point, because even my 5 year-old PC could reliably handle both functions when I was using it last year. П˜Ÿ Any advice is appreciated.
